General Meeting Notice

No General Meeting in July
See You August 6th

ANNUAL FALL PICNIC AND COOK-OFF
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 21ST
4 PM TIL ??

Howdy! This year we are in for a special treat. The Gheres will be smoking up the best Texas style brisket you have ever tasted. Trust me, I am from Texas, and I have already sampled their melt-in-the-mouth brisket.
To join in, look through your cookbook for Texas Vegetables, Salads, and Desserts to complement authentic Texas Bar-B-Q.
To add to our feasting, we'll take in some Country & Western music, and the Labrados will teach us a Line Dance. So, put on your Levis, step into some dancing boots and come out for great time.
We do need a few volunteers. If you have a pickup to help us get tables and chairs from St. Paul’s and can help set up and or tear down please call me. It would be great to have at least 4 people.
We also need 2 people to help with a couple of Texas style games for the entire family.
Please call me if you can help: 621-1529. Thanks, Gayle Copeland
Picnic Registration forms will be in the August and September Newsletters.

Meet a Neighbor

Mary Smith is our current HWNA President- Elect. She will start her “reign” as President in January of 2003. Mary and her husband Jim live at 2001 Washington Blvd. Before the last election Mary served as one of our Directors at Large. She was a busy lady last year as she headed up both the Fall Picnic and the Homes Tour. She currently writes our Code Corner. What an asset she has been to the HWNA. Thanks Mary!
WHEN did you move to Westheight? Mary came to Westheight in 1997.
WHY did you move to Westheight? Mary married Jim and moved into Westheight. Jim has been in Westheight since 1974 but has known the neighborhood all his life.
Do you have children, grandchildren or pets? Mary has two children, Anthony and Tamara and one stepson, Matt. She also has two granddaughters and two step-granddaughters.
What is your occupation? She is an Office Manager for the Federal Parole and Probation office in KCK.
What are your hobbies or passions? Mary says reading is her real passion and she reads EVERYTHING! She also enjoys yard work. Maybe we can get her to come and enjoy doing ours.
Name your favorite KC restaurant. Mary says she cooks every night and does not eat out that much, but when she does, she goes to Manny’s.
Name your favorite KC site. She likes to go check out the local antique shops.
What is the best part of Westheight for you? The friendly neighbors.

Introducing John and Ginny Rector who live at 1313 Hoel Parkway.
WHEN did you move to Westheight? They moved here in 1995. They have lived in KCK for over 20 years.
WHY did you move to Westheight? Ginny says they were driving around the neighborhood and just happened to see “their” house. It had a For Sale sign on it, and they bought it.
Do you have children, grandchildren or pets? They have three grown children: two girls named Teresa and Sabrina and a son named James. They also own a Heinz-57 dog named Patches that everyone has probably seen.
What are your occupations? Ginny loves nursing at Children’s Mercy and John does work with underground fuel tanks.
What are your hobbies or passions? Ginny “piddles” around with crafts and John, well he’s busy working and doesn’t find much time for hobbies.
Name your favorite KC restaurant. They like to go to Anthony’s, an Italian restaurant.
Name your favorite KC site. Walking in our neighborhood. What is the best part of Westheight for you? The People.
Isn’t it great that everyone who lives in our neighborhood thinks our people are great!
