What is H. E. A. T. ?

The goals of the H.E.A.T. program (Help Eliminate Auto Theft) are to:

  • Deter auto thefts
  • Assist police officers in identifying suspected stolen autos
  • Assist in identifying and recovering abandoned vehicles
  • Maintain and improve police-community relations, cooperation in combating auto theft.

Auto theft in Kansas City, Kansas continues to be a concern. Auto theft is a costly crime with expenses shared by victims, insurance companies, police agencies, and others.

We can participate in H.E.A.T. with a simple registration process. An owner of a motor vehicle signs a participation agreement stating that under normal circumstances the vehicle is not operated between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. A department-issued reflective decal is then affixed to the interior rear window, showing the vehicle is registered in the program. The participation agreement also authorizes officers of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department to stop the vehicle if it is seen operating during the above-mentioned hours and question its occupants.

The H.E.A.T. Program is a preventive measure aimed at reducing auto thefts, deterring would-be thieves, and assisting police officers in recognizing autos that may be stolen. The approach is voluntary, cost-free, and an uncomplicated defense against auto theft.

If interested please contact the Central Patrol Division at 701 North 7th Street or Community Policing Office, 4601 State Avenue.

Easter Egg Hunt

by Jennifer Thomas, Director-at-Large

We had a hopping good time at this year's annual neighborhood Easter egg hunt. Amid near-perfect weather (it was quite windy), several families enjoyed looking for Easter eggs, coloring, refreshments and the company of other neighbors.
Marilyn Locke of Locke's Bakery, 11 South 17th St, KCK donated over two dozen delicious holiday cookies to the event.
A special thank-you to all neighbors who supported the event, volunteering their time, talents and energies toward its success. Thank you to Susan Maier and Sarah Pike for cleaning the park before the hunt. Thank you also to Elizabeth Cooper, Susan Allen, Hattie Thomas, Joan Daniels and Liz Cooper's niece Jennifer and nephew Grant.
Congratulations to Hannah Fredrickson, who won the Easter Egg coloring contest.
